WHY MOURINHO FAILED AS A COACH IN HIS REAL MADRID CAREER

Jose Mourinho has finally left Real Madrid after ending his
three seasons as their coach, but to what level do you rate the Portuguese man? Many
people who love the game have reacted to Mourinho’s error in Madrid. Some have called
it a disgrace, cultural disaster, nightmare while only few will term it a
success. However, looking at his contributions both in the field and off the
field across the three years of his stay, one can easily deduce that Mourinho
has not done something worth remembrance in football history.
His first year as Real Madrid coach saw the club winning one
title,Copa Del Rey,the second most tresured trophy in the Spain after La liga. This
was after defeating their traditional rivals FC Barcelona in the finals. The
rest of the season was disappointing as they were outdone by their traditional
rivals who won Laliga,Supercup and eliminated them from the Uefa Champions League
semi-finals to eventually proceed to lift the trophy.Though many claimed that
it was his first year but all the same,he ended with one tophy.
The second season saw Mourinho and his team bounce back from
the previous humiliations as they won the Laliga from their traditional rivals
with a record of 100 points. His hopes of winning Uefa Champions League was
however buried after his team was knocked out in the semi-finals by Bayern
Munich.FC Barcelona also denied them the trophy they won in the previous
year,Copa Del Rey,by sending them out of the competition at the semi-finals
stage to eventually lift it.The season ended with Mourinho lifting one trophy
since their traditional rivals had earlier defeated them in Supercup tie.
If there is a season the Real Madrid fans would want to
forget about is Mourinho’s third and final year as their coach.Losing Laliga to
FC Barcelona, elimination from Uefa Champions league by Borussia Dortmund at the
semi-finals and the defeat by Atletico Madrid in the Copa Del Rey finals are
just but worse than ever. The only thing Mourinho can boast of this season is
winning the Supercup tie against FC Barcelona through courtesy of an away
goal.Although this season saw them outdo their traditional rivals,it is less
appreciable without trophies.
Apart from these,Mourinho has also exposed his weaknesses by engaging
in burst-ups with some of his players including defender Sergio Ramos and
goalkeeper Iker Cassilas. His tactics has gone as far as creating disputes in
Spain camp between Real Madrid and FC Barcelona players. He has also engaged in
several abuses to some coaches in the country and most striking is the pinching
of by then FC Barcelona assistant Tito Vilanova on the ear.Ovarally,Real Madrid
had lost their football ethics and codes of conduct under Mourinho’s management.
Despite
having World class players,he has not achived for the club what they invested
in and this has made it a great failure in his career.
